NHLA’s 8-week Inspector Training School is an immersive, hands-on program designed to prepare the next generation of hardwood lumber inspectors. This comprehensive course blends classroom instruction with real-world experience, giving students the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to succeed in the industry.

What Students Can Expect

  • Hands-on lumber inspection training
  • In-class lectures led by an experienced NHLA instructor
  • Written and practical testing
  • Sawmill site visits
  • One-on-one instruction and mentorship
  • Real-world application of grading rules and inspection practices

Students who successfully complete all program requirements will receive an NHLA Inspector Training School Certificate of Completion.

Admission Requirements

Prospective students must:

  • Hold a high school diploma or GED, or
  • Pass an “Ability to Benefit” test administered on the first day of class

An official copy of high school transcripts or equivalency documentation meeting state minimum standards is required.

Tuition

  • Total tuition: $4,280
  • Deposit: $100 due at registration
  • Balance due: 10 days prior to the start of class
