NHLA is offering a 3-day course on Kiln Drying.  Speakers include Dr. Adam Taylor, University of Tennessee Extension, Mr. Dana Spessert, NHLA Chief Inspector; as well kiln drying expert Bob Pope from SII Dry Kilns.  
 

Who should attend:  Yard personnel, kiln operators and supervisors.   

Expected Outcome: Develop an understanding to dry wood for value and defect reduction.

Day 1:  Wednesday
8:00 am    Why dry lumber, the structure of Wood & its Moisture Content;  Dr. Adam Taylor, UT Extension
12 noon   Lunch Break -- SII Dry Kilns Hosted Lunch
1:30 pm   Use of Kiln Samples, Including Sample Preparation; Mr. Bob Pope, SII Dry Kilns
4:00 pm   Equipment and Maintenance;  Mr. Bob Pope, SII Dry Kilns
                  start a kiln charge 
 
Day 2:  Thursday
8:00 am       Relative Humidity, Temperature and EMC; Dr. Adam Taylor, UT Extension
10:00 am     Lumber Stacking, Air Drying, Shed Drying; Dr. Adam Taylor, UT Extension 
11:00 am      Green Lumber Handling and Protection;  Mr. Geoff Webb, NHLA Dean, Inspector Training School
