NHLA Inspector Training School at Kirtland Community College
Kirtland Community College, in partnership with the NHLA, offers the NHLA Inspector Training School — the premier starting point for anyone considering a career in the hardwood industry. With a long-standing reputation for excellence, NHLA-trained inspectors are in high demand, and many industry-leading companies require their inspectors to be trained and certified through this program.
This year, we’re offering a flexible hybrid course curriculum, which provides students with the opportunity to earn a certificate of completion through a combination of in-person and online learning. The flexible format allows students to progress at their own pace while still gaining essential hands-on experience. Upon successfully completing both the in-person and online components, students will be awarded an official certificate of completion though the National Hardwood Lumber Association.
The course consists of three modules:
Module 1. IN-PERSON: MAY 5 - MAY 9
This introduction week is a combination of lectures and hands-on practice grading.
Module 2. ONLINE: MAY 10 - JULY 6
You will work at your own pace to complete the online portion of the course. Students will need to come to KCC in person to take Exam 1 on May 19 and Exam 2 on June 9.
Module 3. IN-PERSON: JULY 7 - AUG 1
For the final four weeks, students will complete more hands-on lumber grading training as well as their final exams and become complete the certificate of completion.
Tuition for the course is $5,330.
