Description:NHLA is hosting a 3-day seminar on
Hardwood Lumber Processing. It will cover the processing of hardwoods
from the tree to the kiln, by topical experts here at NHLA and from the
Tennessee extension office.
Tours are planned of a local sawmill
and a concentration yard.
Arrival Tuesday, November 5th for a BBQ dinner at NHLA (at 5:30 pm).
Wednesday, November 6th
- Morning session: Silviculture, The Art of Managing Forests and Concepts of Timber Inventory with Dr. David Mercker, UT School of Natural Resources
- Afternoon session: Lumber Grading & Upgrading with Mr. Roman Matyushchenko, NHLA Instructor and Associate Dean of ITS
Thursday, November 7th
- Morning session: Sawmill tour, and Log Grading and Impact on Grade with Mr. Mark Bear, NHLA National Inspector
- Afternoon session: Optimizing Operations - Sawing, Trimming and Edging for Yield with Mr. Dana Spessert, NHLA Chief Inspector
Friday, November 8th
- Morning session: Drying Lumber Concepts with Mr. Geoff Webb, NHLA Dean of the Inspector Training School; and Grading KD, Net & Gross Tally, and NHLA Sales Code with Mr. Dana Spessert, NHLA Chief Inspector
- Afternoon session: Concentration yard tour with Q&A by Mr. Dana Spessert, NHLA Chief Inspector
Price: $1995 members, $2995 non-members
